Yours has already prob'ly done the Series of Unf. Events... and Gregor the Overlander, Susan Cooper, ooh a good new one is Gideon the Cutpurse.
I would not go past Harry Potter #3 until about 5th grade (too dark), also His Dark Materials is too sophisticated conceptually for 3rd grade (i.e. god dies).
But the Artemis Fowl books are ok for 3rd grade, and all of Cornelia Funke, the Bartimaeus Trilogy, Jeanne DuPrau, Sid Fleishman, Cryptid Hunters by Roland Smith...
Also try mining non-fiction for ideas. Biographies, animal books, mythology, ancient history, crime.
Oddly all the south asian fiction for kids is for girls. The Bindi Babes series looks shallow but isn't. Also Anjali Banerjee and Mitali Perkins, written for older girls - read them yourself 1st.
Thanks for asking, I love the kids books!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07372347723680794611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30132689.post-55086803015970092312006-11-14T15:58:00.000-05:002006-11-14T15:58:00.000-05:00YNL, that looks like the dreaded ridgegourd to me ...YNL, that looks like the dreaded ridgegourd to me and I am with the handsome lad on this! I went so far as to buy a couple because all the Indian food blogs go ga-ga about it. They have recipes for every part of that thing. As soon as I found out what it really was, I allowed myself to forget that I had a couple in the crisper and my taste-buds are forever grateful!

Thanks for the compliments about my pickle. I am so glad I found you. I have a question: what would you recommend for a precocious 3rd grader who reads at 6th grade level ?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30132689.post-74256624205297527552006-11-14T07:23:00.000-05:002006-11-14T07:23:00.000-05:00Oh that photo is just too much! :DOh that photo is just too much! :DThe ZenFo Prohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05132805758799453850noreply@blogger.com
